Richard Cibula
Born in 2005 in Bratislava, Richard Cibula is a fifth-generation Slovak violinist distinguished by his extraordinary musical expression and remarkable technical maturity. He began playing the violin at the age of three under the guidance of his father and was admitted to the Bratislava Conservatory at just seven years old, studying with Prof. František Török.
He continued his artistic development at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien with the Polish violinist Anna Gutowska, and since 2020 he has been studying at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien under the mentorship of internationally renowned violinists Dalibor Karvay and Nikita Boriso-Glebsky. His musical growth has been further shaped by masterclasses with eminent artists including Vadim Repin and Midori Goto.
Richard has performed at prestigious venues such as the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Budapest Music Center, and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. A significant milestone in his career was sharing the stage with Midori Goto in 2018, performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins. His concert appearances have taken him across Europe, including Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, and the Czech Republic.
He is the recipient of numerous international awards, including prizes at the International Ferenc Liszt Competition and the International Music Festival in Vienna, as well as Grand Prix distinctions in Prague, Budapest, Villafranca, and Brussels. In addition to his solo career, Richard is an active chamber musician, collaborating with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and performing with prominent artists such as Maxim Brilinsky and Sebastian Breit. Since 2025, he has also been engaged as substitute first violinist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
Richard performs on a 1736 Francesco Goffriller “ex Willi Boskovski” violin, generously loaned by the Goh Family Collection.
